Ottawa native SCHEMATIC (formerly known as Schema) steps up to the plate swinging with his first official release for Stride Recordings. A soulful 4-track odyssey, "The London EP" combs over elements of traditional soul music and upbeat jazz, melding its findings into melodic, uplifting liquid funk. The EP's opener "My Way" is about as funky as soulful drum'n'bass comes, boasting an infectious vocal melody over a smooth, rolling bassline; much like the rest of the content found here. While Schematic also takes somewhat of a minimalist approach on selections like "Between Us," he maintains lush basslines and interesting instrumental arrangements overtop eerily beautiful vocal samples.

Toronto's own Vice delivers a red-hot set with his 4-track EP "The Future." The debut release from the all-Canadian roster Stride Recordings boasts features smooth liquid rollers, the likes of which have been tearing up dancefloors around Ontario for the past couple of months. Vice digs deeper on cuts like "Jolly Boatman" while programming interesting drum patterns on the EP's title track.

Not your typical digital label, the primary long term goal of Stride is to expose the rest of the world to some of the most promising up & coming acts to emerge from Canada in quite some time.
One unique aspect of Stride Recordings is its lack of borders and walls when it comes to the genres that embody the label. From smooth liquid rollers to dancefloor smashing jump up, from the dark and techy to the minimal and funky, Stride offers up two guarantees with each release: quality and diversity. The label was founded in 2009 by Toronto-based DJ Kapulet after receiving countless submissions for his highly acclaimed CCDNB podcast. After coming across dozens of amazing unsigned dubs and wondering how they could just slip under the radar, Kap decided to take matters into his own hands and get some of this great undiscovered music out and available to the general publc.
While Stride is based out of the city that many consider to be the epicenter of Canadian drum'n'bass, the label pays attention to detail in regards to what is happening throughout the entire country of Canada. The first 4 signees -- Vice, Schema, Override and Spinlock -- hail from Toronto, Ottawa. Montreal and Vancouver respectively. The first release from Stride is Vice's "The Future" EP, which was released on October 15th, 2009. "The Future" will be followed by the already crowd-pleasing single "Save Me" in December. also dropping in November is Schema and Spinlock's collaborative effort "So Hot," leading up to monthly EP releases in the new year.
Towards the end of the year and going into early 2010, EPs from Schema and Spinlock will be available exclusively at the Stride Recordings download shop, along with a slew of singles and new artists on the roster TBA in the coming months. The new year will also see the music on Stride made available on all major online stores such as Beatport and iTunes.
The future of Canadian drum'n'bass is right around the corner.
